There is always a danger of cutting rare kinds of trees, so the Finnish scientists have developed a method of laser detection, accurately determining certain types of trees.

The system of  laser scanning creates in the process of work in-depth point profile of the tree, and then passes it to the application on the smartphone, which creates from  a profile three-dimensional model, and then detects and classifies the wood, using various criteria. It is taken into account the trunk diameter,  the number of branches, the angle at which they are growing, height, as well as other relevant parameters.

The system has already been tested on the trees that grow in Finland: birch, spruce and pine, the program recognizes up to 95%.
