He is a German organic- chemist, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1905. His works refer to synthetic organic chemistry and stereochemistry. Bayer introduced into practice of organic synthesis the method of reducing organic substances with zinc dust. He advanced the theory of stress, establishing the dependence of the cycles strength on the angles between valence bonds. Bayer received terephthalic acid, introduced the concept of cis-trans-isomerism and experimentally proved the identity of all carbon atoms in benzene. He created a large school of organic- chemists.
