The Scientists from University College of London and Harvard University described a universal method for the synthesis of the first ribonucleotides - the components of which RNA molecules are composed. The proposed scheme assumes the synthesis of both purine and pyrimidine nucleotides from a single precursor under similar conditions, which is in good agreement with the requirements of hypotheses about the origin of life on Earth. The article was published in the journal NatureCommunications.
