Prominent chemist, Deputy on scientific work of Institute of Chemical Problems after M.F.Nagiyev Academician, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Mahammad Babanli is 65 years old on January 22.

M.Babanli was born in 1952 in Saatli region. In 1973 he graduated from the chemical faculty of Azerbaijan State University (present BSU), 1974-1977. He received his education in graduate school. In 1977 he defended his thesis at the Belarusian State University, 1988 - his doctoral dissertation at Moscow State University after M.V.Lomonosov. In 1990 received the title of Professor, in 2014 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS.

In 1977-2014 he served as a junior researcher, senior researcher, lecturer, associate professor, deputy dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Vice-Rector, Academic Secretary, Head of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry at Baku State University.

Currently M.Babanli is Research Director of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry of ANAS.

He is well-known scientist in the field of chemistry, materials science and thermodynamics of complex inorganic systems with functional properties.

Main scientific achievements of the scientist: proposed a new rational approach to a comprehensive study of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of complex inorganic systems, has developed his theoretical and methodological aspects and realized it created a scientific basis of directional phase synthesis with advanced semiconductor and other funktsi¬onalnymi properties.

In recent years, under the leadership of M.Babanli been studied a new approach to phase equilibria in three- and four-component systems form the layered compounds exhibiting the properties of a topological insulator. At the same time, a number of compounds were synthesized in the same class, the fundamental thermodynamic function defined phases obtained, reared their strong large single crystals by directional solidification. After examining the samples obtained in the leading laboratories in the European Union and Japan have been identified by their promise for a new generation of quantum computers and spintromike.

Research projects a scientist were awarded a number of international grants. He is the author of over 800 papers, 3 monographs, 12 textbooks and manuals, about 500 articles and 5 patents. Over 200 articles have been published in international journals with high impact factor.

Scientific achievements M.Babanly professor and his team entered the multi-volume fundamental information books, periodicals issued in the US, Europe and Russia ( "Phase Equilibria Diagrams", "Ternary alloys", «the state diagrams of metallic systems" and others.).

Under his leadership, we were prepared 32 PhD and 1 doctor of sciences. Among them there are personnel trained nationals from Syria, Vietnam, Korea, Iran and Afghanistan.

He took an active part in scientific and public life of the country. In different years he was a member, deputy chairman and chairman of the Advisory Council for Chemistry WAC under the Azerbaijani President, member of the Scientific Council of BSU, as well as a number of dissertation councils. He is currently a member of the Dissertation Council at IKNH, as well as a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Vestnik BSU" and "Turkish Journal of Chemistry".

In 2000, the decree of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic has been awarded "Tereggi" medal.

In 2011, for a series of scientific papers published in the journal Academy of Sciences and was awarded a diploma of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2015 for his contribution in the development of physical and chemical analysis and the preparation of new functional materials - Kurnakova Medal and Diploma of Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 2016 he was awarded a diploma for "the most well-known link scientific article" Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan and the International scientific-analytical information company Thomson Reuters.

Congratulations to the outstanding scientist and wish him robust health and endeavors in science!
