Azerbaijani scientist elected a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Rector of Baku State University, Academician Abel Maharramov was elected a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences -one of the most influential scientific institutions of the world.

On October 28 at the General meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences results of the elections which are carried out in three steps with participation of 2400 candidates have been approved and surnames of 63 foreign scientists recognized at the international level elected in members of the Russian Academy of Sciences are published.

The list includes the most well-known scientists from such countries as the USA, England, Japan, China, Germany, Israel, Norway, including 7 Nobel Prize winners. Among such scientific giants such as world-famous scientists - Frenchman Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Chinese Huang Wei, Dan Shechtman Israeli, American, Henry Kissinger, Roger Kornberg, Martinus Veltman, Kenneth Arrow, and is Rector of BSU Abel Maharramov.

After finished his studies at the high school with a gold medal, Abel Maharramov, in 1971 he graduated from the Chemical Faculty of BSU. In 1973 he entered graduate school at Moscow State University, in 1976 he defended his thesis, and in 1991 - a doctoral thesis. In 2001 he was elected a corresponding member, and in 2007 - full member of ANAS.

Under his leadership, about 60 scientists defended their doctoral and master's theses. Honored Scientist Maharramov is author of 54 inventions, 51 textbooks and manuals, including more than 1,000 articles and abstracts. The number of articles in scientific journals included in the list of Tomson Reuter’s agency is 234, references to his work - 707 and the rate of the index "H" - 15, which is one of the highest scientific indicators in the country.

Academician Abel Maharramov is a Honorary Doctor of many advanced universities in the world, including Honorary Professor of Moscow State Lomonosov University, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, winner of several international organizations in science, including ECO and ISESCO.
