The discovery of American and South Korean scientists looks like an ideal solution to several problems at once: the installation will produce electricity and hydrogen from carbon dioxide dissolved in the ocean - the main cause of global warming.

The scientists from the Georgia State University of Technology and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology have developed a hybrid system that continuously produces electrical energy and hydrogen during a CO2 conversion reaction for 1000 hours through hydration, EurekAlert reports. That is, it cleans the oceans, producing the energy.

The system proved its stability after 1000 hours of continuous operation without damage to the electrodes. Scientists are convinced that electrolytes, separator and catalysts can be further improved. This will increase the efficiency of the reaction.
